To commemorate and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong, the Chinese Culture Promotion Office (CCPO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Water Supplies Department (WSD) jointly present “An Inseparable Bond, Our Blessed Origin: 60th Anniversary of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong” Exhibition, at the Lobby, 1/F, Hong Kong Museum of History, from tomorrow (August 23) to December 15. Admission is free. With rare historical photos and text descriptions, the exhibition showcases Hong Kong’s response to drought in the 1960s, the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Construction Project, and the ongoing efforts of the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong to ensure the quality and quantity of the Dongjiang water supply.

The supply of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong since 1965 serves as an important cornerstone for maintaining Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability. Coming from the mountains, the continuous flow of Dongjiang water not only alleviates Hong Kong’s water shortage but also symbolises the inseparable blood ties and deep friendship between the people of the Mainland and Hong Kong. Spanning 83 kilometres, this large-scale inter-basin water supply project was completed in just one year, with contributions from tens of thousands of builders from the Pearl River Delta, including over 200 faculty members and students from Guangdong Industrial Institute (now Guangdong University of Technology). The exhibition introduces their stories of pouring their youthful passion into the project.

The exhibition also features an interactive quiz game, allowing members of the public to understand this vast water supply project from multiple perspectives, and tips on water conservation. It also displays award-winning entries from the “Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong” Primary School Parent-child Drawing Competition held earlier.

The exhibition is jointly organised by the CCPO and the WSD, and supported by the Hong Kong Museum of History and Bauhinia Magazine. For details of the exhibition, please visit the website: www.ccpo.gov.hk/en/programme/an-inseparable-bond-our-blessed-origin-60th-anniversary-of-dongjiang-water-supply-to-hong-kong-exhibition/

The exhibition is one of the activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong under the theme “Dongjiang River – An Inseparable Bond, Our Blessed Origin”. Through various activities, the Government aims to enhance public understanding of the importance of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong’s prosperity, stability and long-term development as well as the country’s longstanding care and support for Hong Kong.

MOEA Launches Three AI Robotics Initiatives to Capture New Opportunities in Smart Healthcare and Manufacturing

Source: Republic of China Taiwan

Artificial intelligence is accelerating the transformation of Taiwan’s robotics industry. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT) has partnered with China Steel Machinery, National Taiwan University Hospital, and Changhua Christian Hospital to introduce three cutting-edge applications: Taiwan’s first AI endoscopic robot that improves diagnostic safety and efficiency; medical logistics and instrument preparation robots that ease healthcare workloads by 20%; and a digital twin welding robot that doubles efficiency while halving costs.

These innovations will debut at the 2025 Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robot Show (TAIROS) on August 20 at the MOEA DoIT Technology Pavilion, demonstrating how Taiwan is advancing AI-driven robotics in healthcare and manufacturing.

DoIT Senior Technical Specialist Tsung-Hsun Tsou highlighted that as global supply chains restructure and industries pursue smarter production, Taiwan is moving from “manufacturing” to “smart manufacturing.” Over the past six years, DoIT has secured 70 patents worldwide, completed more than 300 technology transfers, and generated nearly NT$12 billion in derivative industrial value and private investment. These achievements reflect Taiwan’s growing capabilities in AI, robotics, and cross-sector integration.

Innovation Highlights

-AI Endoscopic Robot: Taiwan’s first, introduced at National Taiwan University Hospital, enhances precision while reducing risks by avoiding external punctures.

-Medical Service Robots: Relieve healthcare workers of 20% of routine logistics and instrument preparation tasks, allowing staff to focus more on patients.

-Digital Twin Welding Robot: Enables customized, ultra-precise welding with simulation and interactive control, doubling performance and cutting costs in half.

DoIT noted that beyond manufacturing, Taiwan is expanding robotics into healthcare by leveraging ICT strengths and medical expertise. Looking forward, DoIT aims to foster cross-domain cooperation and build a smart healthcare ecosystem that strengthens Taiwan’s global competitiveness in AI robotics.

By integrating advanced technology with industrial and medical applications, Taiwan is poised to capture new opportunities in global smart manufacturing and healthcare markets.
