The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (September 6) that Pui O Beach in Islands District is temporarily closed until further notice for maintenance of shark prevention net. Red flag has been hoisted at the beach. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at the beach.

The Hong Kong Observatory issued No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal at 9.20pm last night (September 7).

As at 5.20am today (September 8), the Home Affairs Department has opened 29 temporary shelters in various districts and 211 people have sought refuge at the shelters.

As at 5am today, the Government’s 1823 Call Centre has received one report of fallen trees. No report of landslide or flooding has been received so far. 

According to the Hospital Authority, as at 4am today, one male has sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department at a public hospital during the typhoon period.

As at 8am today, the Government’s 1823 Call Centre and the Fire Services Department received four reports and 15 reports of fallen trees respectively. No report of landslide or flooding has been received so far.

According to the Hospital Authority, as at 8am today, two male have sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department at a public hospital during the typhoon period.

Réception des travaux du lycée Jules-Garnier

Petelo Sao, membre du gouvernement chargé de la construction et de l’urbanisme, se rendra ce mardi 9 septembre à 8h30 au lycée Jules-Garnier, à l’occasion de la réception des travaux de rénovation de l’établissement, en présence d’Isabelle Champmoreau, membre du gouvernement chargée de l’enseignement.

Pour rappel, ces travaux de rénovation, qui ont débuté en juin 2023, sont inscrits au contrat de développement État-Nouvelle-Calédonie 2017-2022 pour un montant 705 millions de francs.  

Para dance event concludes

A two-day mass participation para dance sport event held at the Ma On Shan Sports Centre as part of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG), concluded on September 7.

The event comprised Combi Standard Dance 3-Dance, Duo Para Standard Dance 3-Dance, Combi Standard Dance 5-Dance, Duo Para Latin Dance 5-Dance, Combi Latin Dance 3-Dance, Duo Para Standard Dance 5-Dance, Duo Para Latin Dance 3-Dance, Combi Latin Dance 5-Dance, and Group Dance competitions.

Over 90 athletes spanning 13 teams from the Mainland and Hong Kong participated. There were 23 Hong Kong competitors. Results from the different competitions are shown in the attachment.

National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) (NGCO) Head Yeung Tak-keung extended his congratulations to Hong Kong representatives Matthew Yu and Pandora Choi, who won gold medals in Combi Latin Dance 3-Dance and Combi Latin Dance 5-Dance, respectiveily. He also applauded another pair of Hong Kong representatives, Susanna So and Angus Lee, for claiming silver medals in the Combi Standard Dance 3-Dance, Combi Standard Dance 5-Dance and Combi Latin Dance 5-Dance competitions.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong team took gold in the Group Dance medals. Over the course of the whole weekend, Hong Kong’s medal haul comprised three gold and three silver medals.

Mr Yeung remarked that this was the first mass participation para dance sport event the NGD and the NSOG have staged in Hong Kong. He added that it received very positive feedback from technical officials and athletes, with regard to venue facilities, competition procedures, accommodation and hospitality arrangements, and more.

Following the staging of the 15th National Games bowling mass participation event and this weekend’s mass participation para dance sport event, the next major event to be hosted by Hong Kong will be the beach volleyball event due to commence in Victoria Park on October 31.

CE congratulates elected members

Chief Executive John Lee today congratulated candidates returned to the Election Committee following the 2025 Election Committee Subsector By-elections, adding that he expects every member of the Election Committee to fulfil their responsibilities dutifully and contribute to the steadfast and successful implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle.

Mr Lee iterated that the Election Committee, comprising 1,500 members from 40 subsectors, is broadly representative, fulfils the principle of balanced participation, and plays a pivotal role in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s improved electoral system and implementation of the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong”.

He added that members of the Election Committee will be responsible for nominating candidates for the eighth-term Legislative Council general election, due to be held on December 7, and for electing 40 Legislative Council members in the Election Committee constituency in that poll.

Mr Lee thanked all voters who participated in the by-elections for electing patriots dedicated to building a better home for Hong Kong.

He also thanked all personnel involved in organising the by-elections for their dedicated efforts in ensuring it was conducted in a fair, just, honest, smooth, safe and orderly manner.
