Retired Transformer Boxes Become Superstar Creative Works! TPCreative Heads to Creative Expo Taiwan 2025, Assembling Four Major Traditional Works for Audience Enjoyment

Source: Republic of China Taiwan

Taipower transformer box table trivets have recently been trending on Threads. These functional artworks, which combine the utility of an insulated trivet with unique “heritage landscapes” and embody the beauty of old items being reborn, attracted an enthusiastic response from netizens. Now, fans have an opportunity to view all of TPCreative’s traditional works in a single exhibition! After a 3-year hiatus, Taipower has returned to Creative Expo Taiwan, curating a magnificent display in Hall 1 of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. For the first time, four major remanufacturing projects-Retired Transformer Boxes, Sun-Moon Lake Sediment, Retired Wood Crossarms, and Retired Brass Sealing Strips-will be displayed simultaneously. The exhibition will be fully open to the public for viewing starting tomorrow (August 7) and continuing through August 11. Visitors are invited to see these works in person and experience the brilliance of 100-year-old retired power industry materials and electrical refuse that have been transformed and reborn.
Taipower previously participated in Creative Expo Taiwan in 2019 and 2021. In addition to displaying goods produced through its acclaimed circular economy projects, Taipower also built a neon light exhibition wall from discarded powerline insulation equipment (voltage insulators), creating an irresistible selfie spot for social media afficionados. After a 3-year hiatus, TPCreative makes its return to the exhibition, continuing to promote the brand’s circular economy philosophy and reflecting this year’s theme of “Water Scapes” while showcasing four major historic projects in one exhibition. This year, the main exhibition wall was made by using recycled wood crossarms from electric poles as the basic materials. Each piece of wood, with its unique grain and deep colors, was re-trimmed and pieced together into an exhibition wall with a mosaic effect, forming a tapestry of time that recounts the history of power transmission and evokes memories of urban areas.
A Taipower representative explained that the “single panel from a transformer box” that recently generated online buzz originated from TPCreative’s 2021 Retired Transformer Box Remanufacturing Project. Over the course of almost 2 years, Taipower mobilized personnel from all regions of Taiwan to collectively gather nearly 4000 panels from dismantled transformer boxes. These panels were further deconstructed by designers, trimmed, and manufactured into table trivets. Each work has a mark indicating its birthplace and features a unique drawing. Additionally, in June of this year, when TPC Public Art team collaborated with the General Assembly of Chinese Culture and the Yoshitomo Nara Foundation to present the “Traveling with Hazy Humid Day in Jinguashi” exhibition, retired transformer box panels were used to create Yoshitomo Nara X TPC Public Art Limited Edition Collaboration Badges, which swaths of fans instantly flocked to buy.
In addition to the transformer box table trivets, Taipower manhole cover coasters, and other popular trinkets, the current exhibition also displays TPCreative’s newest masterpieces from last year’s highly acclaimed Retired Brass Sealing Strips Remanufacturing Project. This project repurposed retired brass sealing strips from pumped storage units of the Mingtan and Daguan hydropower plants at Sun-Moon Lake, utilizing these unique materials to create Sun-Moon Lake hydropower ballpoint pens and pen holders, along with desktop toys in the form of rotor spinning tops, applying creativity and superior craftsmanship to transform retired brass sealing strips into cultural and creative articles for use in daily life.
Since its establishment in 2018, TPCreative has invested in the circular economy by utilizing Taipower’s power generation byproducts, retired equipment, and recycled components as upcycling resources. To date, it has repurposed over 3 metric tons of coal ash, 2.4 metric tons of sediment, almost 4,000 transformer box panels, and 3,300 ceramic voltage insulators from electric lines. Additionally, TPCreative has collaborated with nearly 20 domestic design labels and aims to support the domestic design industry while promoting the circular economy. Furthermore, last year, TPCreative earned the Golden Pin Design Award, the Pinkoi Design Award and other awards and recognitions.
A Taipower representative announced that an exclusive discount will be offered for all TPCreative products on sale at Creative Expo Taiwan. Additionally, everyone who’s interested in the event should make sure to attend the Hydropower Rotor Spinning Top Championship on August 7, 8, 9, and 11, which is limited to 25 participants per day. The best performer among all competitors will receive a limited-edition Yoshitomo Nara collaborative badge. Moreover, famous graffiti artist HORUMON BABY has been invited to appear on the afternoon of August 10, for a live show that turns Taipower table trivets into a creative canvas. Venturing into the Field of Nuclear Medicine! Taipower and Primo Biotechnology Sign Cooperative MOU Promoting Nuclear Medicine Radiation Safety

Source: Republic of China Taiwan

July 4, 2025 – Since its establishment in 1975, Taipower Radiation Laboratory has been Taiwan’s “Guardian of Nuclear Safety”. For half a century, the Laboratory has been charged with monitoring the radiation levels of nuclear power plant facilities, the environment, and personnel. Even following the decommissioning of nuclear reactors, it has remained vigilant. In recent years, the Radiation Laboratory has diversified, successfully achieving certification as a food radiation testing organization. Now, the Laboratory is also venturing into the field of nuclear medicine for the first time. Today, Taipower signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Primo Biotechnology, a domestic pioneer in radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear medicine. The goal is to assist hospitals and clinics in establishing “nuclear power plant-grade” radiation protection monitoring and safety evaluation mechanisms.
This morning, Taipower joined hands with Primo Biotechnology to sign an MOU jointly promoting “radiation protection monitoring and radiation safety operations at medical institutions”. Hsu Yung-Hui, vice president of Taipower and CEO of the Nuclear Power Division, and Ya-Yao Huang, CEO of Primo Biotechnology, were on site to sign on behalf of their companies.
A Taipower representative expressed that the Radiation Laboratory serves as a base for Taiwan’s radiation protection experts and nuclear technology. The Laboratory is responsible for assessing the radiation doses of nuclear power plant personnel, monitoring environmental radiation, calibrating and maintaining radiation instruments, and conducting radiochemical analysis. In 1997, it became the first radiation testing organization to receive Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) accreditation. In recent years, the Radiation Laboratory has actively promoted transformation; in 2017, it received the first food radiation testing certification issued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and it collaborated with internationally renowned testing institution SGS Taiwan to conduct food radiation testing. In 2019, the Radiation Laboratory also obtained the Ministry of the Interior’s Green Building Material certification and the Nuclear Safety Commission’s radiation protection monitoring certification, totaling four major national level certifications to date. The Laboratory’s testing efforts in diverse sectors such as building materials, cosmetics, and agricultural traceability ensure radiation safety for the populace in their daily lives.
To continuously promote the diverse application of specialized techniques, Taipower is now venturing into the field of nuclear medicine for the first time. Primo Biotechnology is a domestic pioneer in the research and development of radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear medicine, which have applications in cancer diagnosis and treatment. In response to the growing demand for these products, every major hospital in Taiwan must improve their radiation safety evaluation programs-only then can they apply for a pharmaceutical storage and usage license from the Nuclear Safety Commission. The signing of this MOU will facilitate an exchange of radiation protection specialists between Taipower and Primo Biotechnology, and in the future, both parties hope to collaboratively assist medical institutions in establishing more comprehensive radiation protection monitoring and safety assessment mechanisms.
This collaboration is distinct from the Laboratory’s previous work, which focused on techniques for testing and calibrating actual samples and instruments. It will instead establish radiation dose evaluation techniques for nuclear medicine settings and provide optimized radiation protection strategies. Whereas the Radiation Laboratory’s work at nuclear power plants involved the formulation of precise monitoring mechanisms for all facets-from facilities to personnel-applications in the field of nuclear medicine include the shipment and storage of pharmaceuticals, as well as their usage by relevant personnel, to ensure that medical institutions comply with the highest standards for radiation safety evaluation.
