The Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Education City and the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, will co-organise the parent seminar “e-Generation Connected Joy Parent Seminar (3): Guiding Children on the AI Path X Effective Eye Care in Chinese Medicine”. The seminar will be held on 30 Jan 2026 (Friday) from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm in webinar mode. Registration is now open (application deadline: 30 Jan 2026 10:00 am). An unit in-charge of Wellness PLUS of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups will analyse AI’s impact on learning, values, and psychological development for parents, using real-life examples to illustrate its risks and opportunities, and guiding parents on cultivating their children’s AI literacy. A Chinese medicine practitioner at the TWGHs Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Treatment Centre will analyse the relationship between e-learning and eye health from both modern medical and traditional Chinese medicine perspective, and explain how to utilise Chinese medicine approaches to promote eye health. Following the progressive implementation of optimising measures for the four senior secondary (SS) core subjects (i.e. Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, and Citizenship and Social Development) and elective subjects in recent years, schools could make good use of the released space and lesson time to provide students with more diversified learning opportunitites, for example, enabling them to take an additional elective subject, and/ or participate more actively in Other Learning Experiences, life-wide learning activities, and explore personal pursuits, so as to cater for learner diversity, foster whole-person development, and nurture multiple talents.

To enable parents of Secondary 3 students to gain a better understanding of the latest development of the SS curriculum so that they can assist their children in making appropriate subject choices, the Education Bureau will organise a parents’ seminar on “Senior Secondary Curriculum and Subject Choices” on 7 February 2026 (Saturday). Incoming passenger convicted and jailed for dealing with duty-not-paid cigarettes and importing prohibited articles not under and in accordance with import licence (with photo)      
     Customs officers intercepted an incoming male passenger, aged 48, at Hong Kong International Airport on November 23, 2025. About 11 000 duty-not-paid cigarettes and nine tablets of pharmaceutical products containing Part I Poisons, with a total estimated market value of about $50,000 and a duty potential of about $36,000, were seized from his personal baggage. The passenger was subsequently arrested.
      
     Customs welcomes the sentence. The custodial sentence has imposed a considerable deterrent effect and reflects the seriousness of the offences.
      
     Customs reminds members of the public that under the DCO, tobacco products are dutiable goods to which the DCO applies. Any person who imports, deals with, possesses, sells or buys illicit cigarettes commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
      
     Under the IEO, any person who imports pharmaceutical products and medicines without a valid import licence commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.

Govt to join career expo

The Civil Service Bureau will participate in the Education & Careers Expo 2026 at the Convention & Exhibition Centre from Thursday until Sunday. The bureau will present information on civil service career paths, including details on entry requirements, pay, fringe benefits, training and development opportunities.

More than 30 policy bureaus and departments will showcase career opportunities across 29 booths. Over the four-day event, a dedicated stage will host 17 sharing sessions where serving civil servants will share their work experiences and achievements, discuss how they apply creativity and professionalism in daily work, provide recruitment information and answer questions from the public.

Representatives from the Administrative Officer, Executive Officer, Official Languages Officer and Training Officer grades – along with the Clerical & Secretarial grades – will discuss their workplace stories as well as career prospects.

On Thursday, the Civil Service Bureau will hold three thematic seminars during the Open Forum at Hall 1E, introducing the work characteristics and missions of the Administrative Officer, Executive Officer and Clerical & Secretarial Grades.

The Education & Careers Expo will open from 10am to 7pm from Thursday to Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday. Admission is free.

Affected bus route to resume en-route stops for travel convenience of Tai Po residents

     The Transport Department (TD) today (January 19) said that, to provide travel convenience for Tai Po residents, KMB route No. 71K (Tai Po Market Station – Tai Po (Tai Wo)) will resume en-route stops outside Kwong Fuk Market and Kwong Fuk Commercial Centre, starting with the first departure tomorrow (January 20).

     A spokesman for the TD said that, due to the follow-up work on the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, the section of Plover Cove Road between Kwong Fuk Market and Kwong Wang Street, as well as Kwong Wang Street, have remained closed. Franchised bus routes that operate along these road sections remain diverted. After co-ordination and without impeding the follow-up work, KMB route No. 71K will resume the en-route stops outside Kwong Fuk Market and Kwong Fuk Commercial Centre, providing convenience for Kwong Fuk Estate residents in their daily travel, including to and from MTR Tai Po Market Station and Tai Wo Station for transfer to railway services, Tai Po Hui Market, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and Tai Po Government Offices.

     In addition, to further facilitate their daily commute, the TD is planning to temporarily relocate the urban and New Territories taxi stands outside Kwong Fuk Market and Kwong Fuk Commercial Centre, which have been suspended to date, to the lay-by on Plover Cove Road near the entrance to Kwong Fuk Car Park. They will be commissioned upon the target completion of the related works by end-January.

     The public may check the franchised bus operators’ website or mobile application for the latest route information and follow the latest traffic news via radio and TV broadcasts, the TD’s website (www.td.gov.hk) and the HKeMobility mobile application before starting their journeys.

Immigration Department repatriates 113 unsubstantiated non-refoulement claimants to their places of origin  
     The ImmD has been committed to promptly removing unsubstantiated non-refoulement claimants from Hong Kong to maintain effective immigration control and safeguard the public interest. Under the updated removal policy effective from December 7, 2022, the ImmD may generally proceed with the removal of a claimant whose judicial review case has been dismissed by the Court of First Instance of the High Court, thereby enhancing the efficiency of and efforts in removing unsubstantiated claimants.

     Depending on circumstances and needs, the ImmD will remain committed to expediting the removal process and will actively maintain close liaison with governments of major source countries of non-refoulement claimants, airline companies and other government departments to repatriate unsubstantiated non-refoulement claimants from Hong Kong as soon as practicable through all appropriate measures.

Over 10 groups to perform at “Dance with Love and Compassion” Inclusive Performance on January 25  
     This event’s performers include professional dancers, inclusive dance troupes, special school students and parents, primary school students and the elderly. There will also be interactive dancing sessions with audience members to promote harmony between disabled and non-disabled individuals. Meanwhile, the award-winning China Hong Kong Para Dance Sport Association will perform a mesmerising wheelchair dance. This association recently won three gold and three silver medals at the mass participation para dance sport event of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympics Games. Another highlight is a modern dance performance by the Dancing Heart Troupe of St. James’ Settlement, the first local professional dance group comprising individuals with intellectual disabilities.
 
     Other line-ups include the Caritas Lok Hang Workshop “Dansalogue”, Haven of Hope Tseung Kwan O and Sai Kung District Support Centre “Angels’ Blessing”, the Hong Chi Morninglight School in Tuen Mun, the Hong Kong PHAB Association Stanley Shek O Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, the Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre, the Li Sing Tai Hang School Show Choir, Mary Rose School, the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council Wong Tai Sin Wellness Support Centre, and the Parents’ Association of Pre-school Handicapped Children, among others.
 
     The Dance for All Community Care Inclusive Dance Scheme was launched in 2024. Based at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and with veteran local dance artist Andy Wong as Artistic Advisor, the Scheme includes a series of inclusive performances featuring disabled persons as performers. Additionally, a year-long dance training programme is being offered by a professional dance group to students from two special schools, namely the Jockey Club Hong Chi School and the Caritas Lok Kan School. Inclusive dance event to be held

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will present the Dance with Love & Compassion Inclusive Performance on Sunday January 25 at 3pm at the Cultural Centre Piazza, featuring some 180 performers.

The free event will showcase professional dancers, inclusive dance troupes, special school students and parents, primary students and seniors. Interactive audience sessions will also be held to promote harmony with people with disabilities.

The China Hong Kong Para Dance Sport Association will also perform a wheelchair dance. The association won three gold and three silver medals at mass participation para dance sport event at the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympics Games.
