Good morning. I am delighted to welcome you to the WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) x SJ (Sourcing Journal) Global Fashion & Business Conference. A heartfelt greeting goes to our speakers and guests who have travelled from near and far to be with us today.
The fashion industry is one of the most dynamic industries, facing challenges but also offering abundant opportunities. With the theme “Global Creativity and the Fashion Imagination”, this conference gathers visionary minds to dive into inspiring topics at the forefront of fashion, such as cross-cultural creativity, innovation through heritage, storytelling in fashion, and global sourcing. These are all up-to-the-minute, important and practical topics on the global fashion agenda.
At the same time, the conference convenes fashion leaders from the East and the West for insightful dialogue on the industry’s future. It reflects Hong Kong’s unique position as a gateway between the Chinese Mainland, Asia and the world, where cultures and creativity converge. I believe that today’s conference will empower participants with valuable takeaways and inspire new ideas to shape the future of fashion worldwide.
Hong Kong Fashion Fest 2025, sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency of the HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) Government and organised by our various partners, is now under way across the city and will continue until next Sunday (December 7). The wide range of programmes creates platforms for designers and brands across Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and many more countries and regions to build connections and pursue collaboration. It highlights Hong Kong’s role as a global cultural bridge while demonstrating our growing influence as a fashion design hub in Asia. We warmly welcome all of you to join this signature event during your stay in Hong Kong.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Hong Kong Fashion Council for bringing us this truly meaningful conference. My gratitude also goes to our partners of the Hong Kong Fashion Fest, Women’s Wear Daily, the globally respected “Bible of Fashion”, and Sourcing Journal, the premier international voice for sourcing and manufacturing, whose partnership has further elevated this remarkable event.
Before closing, I would also like to take this occasion to encourage all our Hong Kong participants to cast their votes in the Legislative Council General Election on December 7 to fulfil our civil and social responsibilities. Together, we build a better Hong Kong.

FEHD releases fifth batch of gravidtrap indexes for Aedes albopictus in November

District Among the fifth batch of First Phase Gravidtrap Indexes covering 13 survey areas and Area Gravidtrap Indexes covering eight survey areas in November, all were below 10 per cent.
The FEHD has so far released five batches of gravidtrap indexes for Aedes albopictus in November 2025, covering 48 survey areas. Among these 48 survey areas, 38 recorded a decrease or remained unchanged in the individual gravidtrap index as compared to the Area Gravidtrap Index last month, i.e. October 2025, representing that the areas’ mosquito infestation improved or maintained a low level. Ten other areas recorded a slight increase, but the indexes were lower than 10 per cent. Starting in August this year, following the completion of the surveillance of individual survey areas, and once the latest gravidtrap index and the density index are available, the FEHD has been disseminating relevant information through press releases, its website, and social media. It aims to allow members of the public to quickly grasp the mosquito infestation situation and strengthen mosquito control efforts, thereby reducing the risk of chikungunya fever (CF) transmission.
Following the recommendations from the World Health Organization and taking into account the local situation in Hong Kong, the FEHD sets up gravidtraps in districts where mosquito-borne diseases have been recorded in the past, as well as in densely populated places such as housing estates, hospitals and schools to monitor the breeding and distribution of Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which can transmit CF and dengue fever. At present, the FEHD has set up gravidtraps in 64 survey areas of the community. During the two weeks of surveillance, the FEHD will collect the gravidtraps once a week. After the first week of surveillance, the FEHD will immediately examine the glue boards inside the retrieved gravidtraps for the presence of adult Aedine mosquitoes to compile the Gravidtrap Index (First Phase) and Density Index (First Phase). At the end of the second week of surveillance, the FEHD will instantly check the glue boards for the presence of adult Aedine mosquitoes. Data from the two weeks of surveillance will be combined to obtain the Area Gravidtrap Index and the Area Density Index. The Director of Fire Services, Mr Andy Yeung, expressed profound sadness at the passing of a fireman, Mr Ho Wai-ho, who passed away after sustaining injuries in a No. 5 alarm fire today (November 26).
Mr Ho, aged 37, was attached to the Sha Tin Fire Station. He was found collapsed at the scene of the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po this afternoon. He was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital and passed away at 4.41pm.
“Having been a member of the Fire Services Department for about nine years, Mr Ho’s performance was valiant. I am profoundly grieved at the loss of this dedicated and gallant fireman. All of our colleagues are deeply saddened by the loss of such a devoted comrade. On behalf of all our colleagues, I have offered the deepest condolences to his family,” Mr Yeung said.
“Our Welfare Officer and Psychological Services Unit are closely liaising with Mr Ho’s family and will render our utmost assistance to help them through this sad and difficult time.”

The Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung, today (November 26) was deeply saddened by the death of fireman, Mr Ho Wai-ho. Mr Ho sustained injuries while fighting a No. 5 alarm fire in Tai Po today. He was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries later.
“I am profoundly grieved at the passing of Mr Ho, who lost his life in the course of an operation. I offer my deepest condolences to his family members,” Mr Tang said.
Mr Tang also expressed sympathies to the family members of others who died in the fire and wished the injured people a speedy recovery.
Mr Tang said the Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre has begun operating since this afternoon to co-ordinate efforts across departments to respond to and manage the impact of the fire. While the Fire Services Department is doing its utmost to put out the fire, Mr Tang said that the Security Bureau and its departments as well as other relevant departments also lend their full support and provide assistance to those being affected.

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (November 26) announced that malachite green was found in a bighead carp sample. The CFS is following up on the incident.
A CFS spokesman said, “The CFS collected the above-mentioned bighead carp sample from a stall in Pei Ho Street Market, Sham Shui Po, for testing under its routine Food Surveillance Programme. The test result showed that the sample contained malachite green at a level of 0.8 parts per billion.”
The spokesman said that the CFS has informed the stall concerned of the irregularity and instructed it to stop sales of the affected product. The CFS is also tracing the source and distribution of the product concerned.
Malachite green is a type of industrial dye and has been used for treating infections in fish. Currently, malachite green has been prohibited for use in food-producing animals in many countries. According to the Harmful Substances in Food Regulations (Cap. 132AF), no food sold in Hong Kong is allowed to contain malachite green. Offenders will be prosecuted and liable to a fine of $50,000 and to imprisonment for six months upon conviction.
​The CFS will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action. An investigation is ongoing.

A total of 113 persons in custody (PICs) at Shek Pik Prison (SPP) of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) were presented with certificates at a ceremony today (November 26) in recognition of their study efforts and academic achievements.
In the past year, a total of 258 PICs at SPP passed 563 papers with 294 distinctions and credits in various distance learning courses and public examinations organised by the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority and Caritas Institute of Community Education. The subjects covered Chinese language, English language, mathematics, economics, business finance, business statistics, business administration, Putonghua and accounting. The 113 PICs who were awarded certificates today had passed 315 papers with 205 distinctions and credits. Among them, three PICs were awarded bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, four were awarded bachelor’s degrees in General Studies and four were awarded associated degrees in General Studies by the HKMU.
Officiating at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sik Sik Yuen (SSY), Mr Lai Chak-sum, said that SSY is fully supportive of the rehabilitation work of the CSD, and set up a subsidy scheme, namely the Sik Sik Yuen – Care and Rehabilitation Education Fund in March 2023, which runs for four years, to provide financial assistance to needy PICs for education and vocational training, with a view to facilitating their reintegration into society in the future. Moreover, SSY and the CSD have been actively promoting community education. SSY also collaborated with the CSD to produce an animation series this year to promote national security and moral education among young people, thereby enabling a more harmonious and stable society.
During the ceremony, ocarina instructor Sunny Yuen partnered with PICs to stage a music performance. A band composed of PICs also performed music onstage to convey gratitude to their family members as well as community members and organisations that have helped them to rehabilitate.
In the sharing session, a PIC shared his rehabilitation experience and expressed gratitude for his family’s unwavering support. He also thanked correctional officers for their support and encouragement, providing him with resources and assistance throughout his learning journey, enabling him to complete the bachelor’s degree programme.
Situated on Lantau Island, SPP is a maximum security institution with a capacity of 426 penal places for male adult PICs.

The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today (November 26) hosted the second Joint Climate Finance Conference. The hybrid conference, which took place in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, brought together nearly 250 participants across both regions.
As the flagship initiative of the DFSA-HKMA partnership to support and enable climate finance in the Middle East and Asia, this year’s conference focused on financial risks arising from climate change and innovation. It featured a series of dynamic discussions on how the two regions can leverage their strengths in finance and technology to collaborate on the development and deployment of innovative products and solutions, to facilitate energy transition and other sustainable development goals of the region and beyond.
The conference also provided a deep dive into the findings of the DFSA-HKMA joint research “Scaling Sustainable Debt in Emerging Markets”, developed with knowledge partner BloombergNEF, on the role of sustainable debt in scaling up climate finance in emerging markets.
Supported by strategic partners including Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, Nasdaq Dubai, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, the conference featured distinguished speakers in business, commerce, and financial services from across the Asia Pacific and Middle East and North Africa regions. Their participation underscores the event’s role as a premier platform for cross-industry dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration on initiatives that drive long-term value and responsible investment in the region.
The Chief Executive of the DFSA, Mr Mark Steward, said, “By combining our strengths as international financial centres, we are creating new pathways for sustainable investment and innovation. Tokenisation and other emerging technologies, which have been discussed in detail today, have the potential to make climate finance more transparent, efficient, and globally accessible – accelerating the transition across the Asia-Middle East corridor.”
Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA Mr Darryl Chan said, “Dubai and Hong Kong are in a unique position to facilitate climate action across Asia and the Middle East, enabling economies in the region to capture the growth opportunities created by technology advancement in green sectors. With the window for decisive action narrowing, we must move fast to bridge the gaps between markets, between capital and projects, and between ambition and execution. The HKMA and the DFSA will continue to provide a platform for the much-needed dialogue and collaboration.”

The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, today (November 26) was deeply saddened that the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po caused multiple deaths and injuries, including the passing of fire services personnel on duty. He extended his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured.
Mr Lee is extremely concerned about the incident and has immediately activated the Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre. He was briefed by the Security Bureau and the Fire Services Department and steered the relevant departments to make every effort to carry out firefighting, rescue and cure work. All government departments are fully assisting residents affected by the fire, prioritising the safety and well-being of the public. The Home Affairs Department, District Offices and Social Welfare Department have set up interdepartmental help desks, arranged for the residents in need to move to temporary shelters, and provided assistance and mental support to the families of the deceased and the injured. The Hospital Authority has also activated emergency mechanism to make every effort to save and care for the injured.

A fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po at 2.51pm today (November 26). The fire was upgraded to No. 3 alarm at 3.02pm, to No. 4 alarm at 3.34pm, and to No. 5 alarm at 6.22pm.
As at 6pm, nine persons felt unwell and were sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment respectively, among which, four persons were certified dead, three persons are in critical condition, one person is in serious condition and one person is in stable condition.

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, today (November 26) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of fireman, Mr Ho Wai-ho, who died while tackling the fire in Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po.
“I pay solemn tribute to Mr Ho for his gallantry and selfless devotion to duty, and express the deepest condolences to his family on behalf of the Civil Service. The Civil Service Bureau has contacted the Fire Services Department and will make every effort to help the family of Mr Ho during this sad and difficult period,” said Mrs Yeung.
She also sent her regards to the families of others who died in the fire and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
