The Land Registry logged 7,271 sale and purchase agreements for all building units in July, down 0.8% compared with June but 37.1% higher year on year.

The total consideration for such agreements in July dropped 17.8% from the previous month to $54.6 billion, with that figure marking a 28% year on year increase.

Of the agreements logged, 5,766 were for residential units, reflecting a 3.2% decrease from June and a 54.9% hike from a year ago.

The total consideration for residential units was $46.4 billion, down 24.1% compared with June and 29.9% higher year on year.

There were 423,893 searches of the land register last month.

The Secretary for Security today exercised the powers conferred by the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance to specify 16 individuals who are subject to warrants of arrest issued by the court on suspicion of having committed offences endangering national security, and state the measures to be applied against them by notices published in the Government Gazette.

The suspects are Victor Ho, Chan Lai-chun, Feng Chongyi, Gong Sasha, Ng Man-yan, Tsang Wai-fan, Chin Po-fun, Paul Ha, Hau Chung-yu, Ho Wing-yau, Keung Ka-wai, Tony Lam, Agnes Ng, Wong Chun-wah, Wong Sau-wo and Zhang Xinyan.

The Police Force’s National Security Department announced on July 25 that the 16 absconders, together with Yuan Gong-yi, Fok Ka-chi and Choi Ming-da, were put on wanted list, with rewards offered in respect of each of them.

These 19 people are suspected of committing offences under the National Security Law by organising, establishing, or participating in, outside Hong Kong, a subversive organisation named the “Hong Kong Parliament”. The court has issued arrest warrants against them upon application by Police.

Three measures are applicable to the 16 absconders specified today: “Prohibition against making available funds etc. or dealing with funds etc.”, “Prohibition against certain activities in connection with immovable property”, and “Prohibition in connection with joint ventures or partnerships with relevant absconders”.

The measure of “Cancellation of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passports etc.” is applicable to most of the absconders, while the measure of “Temporary removal from office of director” is applicable to individual absconders.

The Government noted these wanted criminals are hiding in the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, Australia, Thailand, China’s Taiwan region, etc, and they continue to blatantly engage in activities endangering national security.

In addition to stressing that they intended to incite hatred through smears and slander against the central authorities and the Hong Kong SAR, the Government made it clear that as a consequence, it has taken such measures to make a significant impact.

Separately, Police remind the public that, except under the authority of a licence granted by the Secretary for Security, any person, whether directly or indirectly, making available any funds or other financial assets or economic resources to a relevant absconder, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for seven years.

The Government announced that Edric Leung will assume the post of District Officer (Kwai Tsing) on August 11, succeeding Huggin Tang.

Mr Leung joined the Administrative Service in 2014, having served in the Home Affairs Department and the Labour & Welfare Bureau.

He was Assistant Secretary (Treasury) at the Financial Services & the Treasury Bureau before taking up the new post.

Mr Edric Leung will assume the post of District Officer (Kwai Tsing) on August 11, succeeding Mr Huggin Tang.
 
Mr Leung joined the Government in 2011 and served in the Executive Officer Grade. He joined the Administrative Service in 2014 and has served in the Home Affairs Department and the Labour and Welfare Bureau.
 
He is currently the Assistant Secretary (Treasury) at the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau.

Chief Executive John Lee today attended Sport For All Day 2025 at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre to convey to the public the benefits of regular exercise for physical and mental well-being.

With Hong Kong co-hosting the 15th National Games (NG), the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) with Guangdong Province and the Macao Special Administrative Region for the first time, the theme of this year’s Sport For All Day is “Coalescing together for the National Games”.

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department (LCSD) organised a series of free recreation and sports programmes at designated sports centres, with a focus on promoting various events of the 15th NG, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG, inviting the public to celebrate this national sports extravaganza.

Accompanying Mr Lee at the event were Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Rosanna Law, the Gold Medalist in the Women’s Épée Individual event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Vivian Kong and the three-time Gold Medalist in the Men’s Individual Road race at the Asian Games and National Games Wong Kam-po.

The guests enjoyed the cheerleading and breaking performances, and joined rugby, virtual fencing, virtual triathlon, golf, virtual karting games, as well as table tennis fun activities for persons with different abilities.

They also visited the games booth of the Festival of Sport organised by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC).

Sixteen principal officials including Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki, Financial Secretary Paul Chan, Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing and Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan also supported the event by joining the recreation and sports activities held at the sports centres in various districts.

A number of the LCSD’s fee-charging facilities were also open for use by members of the public for free today.

Supporting the event, the SF&OC also held the “Sport for All Experience Day” at GO PARK Sai Sha, additionally, a number of organisations opened their venue facilities or launched recreation and sports programmes for free public use today.

     The publicity event “Anti-Drug, New Era” organised by the Narcotics Division (ND) of the Security Bureau was held at the Domain shopping mall in Yau Tong this afternoon (August 3). The Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung, introduced the concept of a new anti-drug publicity campaign to members of the public at the event, and talked about tearing down the facade of “space oil drug” and renaming it as etomidate.

     Mr Tang said that many people have mistakenly believed that vaping etomidate is “cool”. He wanted to tell members of the public that drug abuse is definitely not “cool”. Knowing how to say no to drugs is “cool”!
