Algernon Yau starts NZ trip

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau began his visit to New Zealand today to promote Hong Kong’s unparalleled strengths under the “one country, two systems” principle and foster economic and trade collaboration between the two places.

 

While meeting the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Forestry, Minister for Trade & Investment and Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Todd McClay in Wellington, Mr Yau updated Mr McClay about Hong Kong’s economic developments as well as its trade and investment promotion initiatives such as the deduction in liquor duty.

 

On regional co-operation, Mr Yau highlighted Hong Kong’s readiness for early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and called for New Zealand’s support for its early accession to it, through which the city is committed to making important contributions to regional economic development and integration.

 

Mr Yau also met Chair of New Zealand Trade & Enterprise and Invest New Zealand board member Charles Finny to gain a better understanding of the latest developments of its industries and discuss co-operation opportunities.

 

He pointed out that Hong Kong’s unique advantages and favourable business environment present tremendous business opportunities for New Zealand enterprises and investors.

 

Additionally, the commerce chief paid a courtesy call on Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Niue Wang Xiaolong to keep him abreast of Hong Kong’s efforts in deepening international co-operation to cope with the changes in the global economic and trade landscape.

 

Mr Yau then attended a business dinner co-hosted by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Sydney and BusinessNZ, at which he said that Hong Kong is the world’s fifth-largest merchandise trading entity after the Mainland, the US, the EU and Japan.

 

Apart from emphasising that according to the World Investment Report 2025, global foreign direct investment inflows to the city reached US$126 billion in 2024, ranking Hong Kong third globally, Mr Yau added that this is a vote of confidence by Hong Kong investors.

 

As he briefed the dinner participants on the vast potential of the Greater Bay Area, Mr Yau encouraged the business sector there to explore the bay area’s business opportunities and enjoy preferential treatment under the Mainland & Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, leveraging the city’s distinctive advantage as a gateway to the GBA and Mainland markets.

     He is about 1.7 metres tall, 55 kilograms in weight and of medium build. He has a long face with yellow complexion and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a pink short-sleeved Polo Shirt, dark trousers and dark sports shoes.

100 nominations determined valid

The Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC) today announced that the nomination of 100 candidates for the Election Committee (EC) Subsector By-elections and 10 nominations for EC members have been determined as valid. In addition, the CERC also determined eight registrations of ex-officio EC members as valid.

As regards the 93 vacancies in the EC membership to be returned by the 2025 EC Subsector By-elections, the Returning Officers (ROs) received a total of 101 nomination forms for candidates by the close of nominations.

Upon review, the CERC has determined 100 candidates as validly nominated. One candidate had passed away during the nomination period. The CERC thus determined his nomination as invalid in accordance with relevant electoral law.

As for the 10 members to be returned through supplementary nominations by designated bodies, the ROs received a total of eight nomination forms submitted by designated bodies, involving 11 nominees.

The CERC has determined 10 nominations, according to the priorities indicated by the designated bodies, are sufficient for filling the number of seats assigned to the subsectors.

Meanwhile, the Registration & Electoral Office (REO) has received eight registrations for ex-officio members. Upon review, the CERC has determined that these eight registrations are valid.

The subsectors involved engineering, medical and health services, social welfare, as well as architectural, surveying, planning & landscape.

Health chief to visit Singapore

Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau will lead a delegation to Singapore tomorrow to meet health authorities there, with a view to strengthening exchanges and co-operation between the two places in healthcare-related areas.

 

Additionally, the delegation will meet with local regulatory authorities for drugs and medical devices, clinical research institutions, as well as pharmaceutical companies. The Department of Health will also sign a memorandum of understanding with Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority.

 

Director of Health Dr Ronald Lam intends to participate in the delegation. Prof Lo and the delegates will return to Hong Kong on August 14. During his absence, Under Secretary for Health Dr Cecilia Fan will be Acting Secretary.

Emerging cellist to perform in Sept

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will present a cello recital by Alex Lau on September 9.

 

The emerging young cellist will collaborate with Japanese pianist Naoko Sonoda to perform an exquisite selection of cello sonatas spanning different eras, showcasing his outstanding talent and superb technique.

 

In the first half of the recital, the duo will perform Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 4 in C, Op. 102, No. 1 and Brahms’ Cello Sonata in F, Op. 99.

 

The second half will feature two works from the mid-20th century, beginning with Mr Lau’s solo interpretation of Ligeti’s Sonata for Solo Cello, culminating in a rendition of Prokofiev’s Cello Sonata in C, Op. 119 with Ms Sonoda.

 

Tickets for the show, which will be held at 8pm on September 9 at City Hall, are now available at URBTIX.

 

The cello recital is part of the “Hong Kong Artists” Series. Other programmes in the series include a vocal recital by Viola Cheung on November 13 and a Guzheng recital by Grammy Yeung on December 1.

L’OIF lance deux appels à candidatures pour la plateforme de formation du projet D-CLIC

L’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) lance deux appels à candidatures pour la plateforme de formation en ligne du projet D-CLIC. Ils serviront à la constitution d’une équipe pédagogique chargée de la conception, de la mise en œuvre et du déploiement d’une formation en ligne aux métiers de l’intelligence artificielle. Date limite pour candidater : 24 août 2025.

Mission d’expertise pour la conception de contenus, la coordination pédagogique et le tutorat de la formation aux métiers de l’intelligence artificielle

L’OIF souhaite constituer une équipe techno-pédagogique de 12 experts (2 coordonnateurs pédagogiques et 10 concepteurs de contenus). Les membres de cette équipe interviendront également comme tuteurs et facilitateurs en mode SPOC (Small Private Online Course).

L’équipe sélectionnée aura pour objectifs d’accompagner la direction de la Francophonie économique et numérique (DFEN) de l’OIF dans les missions suivantes :

  1. Conception et structuration de la formation « L’IA dans mon quotidien » :
  2. Production de ressources pédagogiques multimédias et interactives ;
  3. Implémentation technique et qualité sur la plateforme ;
  4. Accompagnement, tutorat et évaluation de la formation.

Les qualifications, expériences et compétences pour chaque type de profil sont définies dans les termes de référence de l’appel à candidature (à retrouver ci-dessous).

Calendrier de l’appel à candidatures :

  • Août 2025 : réception des candidatures
  • Septembre 2025 – Janvier 2026 : développement du dispositif de formation, conception des contenus de formations et déploiement d’une formation test.

Mission d’expertise pour la curation et la conception de contenus de formation aux métiers de la cybersécurité

La direction de la Francophonie économique et numérique (DFEN) de l’OIF recherche l’appui d’un expert capable de l’accompagner dans les objectifs stratégiques et opérationnels suivants :

  • définir des parcours de formation professionnalisants en cybersécurité ;
  • concevoir et élaborer des contenus pédagogiques innovants ;
  • optimiser l’implémentation et l’interopérabilité des contenus
  • accompagner la montée en compétence des tuteurs ;
  • piloter et évaluer l’expérience de formation ;
  • favoriser l’inclusion et l’adaptabilité technologique.

L’expert recherché sera un professionnel de haut niveau, idéalement international, combinant une expertise technique pointue et des compétences pédagogiques avérées. Les qualifications, expériences et compétences pour chaque type de profil sont définies dans les termes de référence de l’appel à candidature (à retrouver ci-dessous).

La mission sera réalisée entre août et décembre 2025. Une réunion de lancement permettra de la préciser. L’expert retenu travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les membres de l’équipe de la DFEN en charge du projet.
