The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) strongly refutes the false claims made in a joint statement issued on August 24 following a meeting between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and King Abdullah II of Jordan.
The document contained fallacies that gravely distort reality, including false and unwarranted references to the so-called “one China principle,” denigrating Taiwan’s sovereignty.
The ROC (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country, and neither it nor the People’s Republic of China is subordinate to the other. This is the long-standing and objective reality commonly acknowledged by the international community.
The status quo across the Taiwan Strait and the fact that the ROC (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country cannot be altered by any nation’s unilateral and inappropriate claims. Coercion by China in any form will only strengthen Taiwan’s resolve to defend its free and democratic system and resist authoritarian expansion.
MOFA strongly denounces the government of China for repeatedly using meetings with the heads of state of other nations to publish false statements that seek to undermine Taiwan’s sovereignty and mislead international public opinion. It calls on the international community to take a clear-eyed view of Beijing’s totalitarian and expansionist nature and to jointly reject China’s malicious lies.
MOFA reiterates that Taiwan will intensify its commitment to upholding the common values of freedom and democracy, working with diplomatic allies and like-minded nations, and continuing to do all it can to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and throughout the region.
