“Fashion Asia Hong Kong 2026” and “5th Hong Kong Denim Festival” staged as final highlight of third edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest
Organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre, “Fashion Asia Hong Kong 2026” officially kicked off today by presenting two highlights, namely the Fashion Challenges Forum and the 10 Asian Designers to Watch Exhibition. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Fashion Asia Hong Kong, this year’s Fashion Challenges Forum once again gathered global industry leaders, curators, and creative talent to explore current business strategies and future ecological blueprints of the fashion industry. Meanwhile, the 10 Asian Designers to Watch Exhibition is being held at the Peak Galleria in Hong Kong from today to September 13, showcasing the exquisite designs and craftsmanship of 10 emerging Asian fashion designers who have just won the 10 Asian Designers to Watch awards this year.
Addressing the opening of the Fashion Challenges Forum today, the Commissioner for Cultural and Creative Industries, Miss Drew Lai, said that Fashion Asia Hong Kong has been one of the core programmes since the inaugural edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest, providing a vital exchange and collaboration platform for the industry. The enduring presence is a testament to the success and outstanding status of Fashion Asia Hong Kong.
Organised by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and themed “Denim Fusion: Cultivating Creativity and Driving Retail Success”, the “5th Hong Kong Denim Festival”, featuring an open ceremony and fashion show held at Central Plaza this evening, encourages industry exchanges and public participation, and offers a diverse array of denim experiences. The fashion show, Denim Voyage Party, features over 30 creations by designers under the Institute’s talent development programme, as well as local and Korean brands. A denim exhibition, workshops and forums are also being held at CENTRESTAGE at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The programme aims to nurture design talent, facilitate cultural exchange, and promote denim culture to the public, underscoring its long-standing commitment to advancing denim design.
Speaking at the event, Miss Lai said that CCIDA has sponsored the Hong Kong Denim Festival for five consecutive years. The Festival has been designated as one of the flagship programmes of Hong Kong Fashion Fest since the last edition. She noted that denim embodies both tradition and innovation, serving as an expression of personal style, while also demonstrating that bold creative vision can be translated into business opportunities. She said she hoped that the programme, in leading local designers to Paris Fashion Week, will help them showcase their creativity and talent on the international stage.

DEVB requests review of project supervision on new Clinical Block of Queen Mary Hospital
The spokesman pointed out that the relevant departments have been responsible for supervising the contractor’s work for this hospital project. Upon learning of the unsatisfactory progress of works earlier, the DEVB has accorded top priority to urging the departments to complete the rectification and follow-up works expeditiously over the past few months. This includes conducting comprehensive examination of various lift components (such as electronic devices, connections, and shaft conditions), as well as the workmanship of construction and installation, with a view to identifying the root causes that affect the stable operation of the lifts for rectification. The relevant works are being carried out at full speed to minimise project delays. Currently, various follow-up works are progressing in an orderly manner as planned and are expected to be completed within the fourth quarter of this year.
The spokesman said, “We consider this an appropriate time to embark on another area of work, and launch a comprehensive review of the supervisory work of the relevant departments, including the ArchSD and the EMSD, for this project. It seeks to examine whether there are areas for improvement and explore whether there is room to enhance the supervision mechanism for similar projects. We have requested both departments to submit reports, so that the DEVB can complete the review and put forward subsequent arrangements within October.”

CFS urges public not to consume three batches of French cheese suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (September 4) urged the public not to consume three batches of cheese originating from France due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The trade should stop using or selling the affected products immediately if they possess any of them.

“The CFS received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Commission that the above-mentioned products were possibly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. A preliminary investigation found that the above-mentioned importers had imported into Hong Kong the affected batches of the products concerned,” a spokesman for the CFS said.
The importers concerned have stopped sales and removed from shelves the affected batches of the products, and have initiated recalls according to the CFS’s instructions. Members of the public may call the respective hotlines during office hours for enquiries.
“Listeria monocytogenes can be easily destroyed by cooking but can survive and multiply at refrigerator temperature. Most healthy individuals do not develop symptoms or only have mild symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, headache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea when infected. However, severe complications such as septicaemia, meningitis or even death may occur in newborns, the elderly and those with a weaker immune system. Although infected pregnant women may just experience mild symptoms generally, the infection of Listeria monocytogenes may cause miscarriage, infant death, preterm birth, or severe infection in newborns,” the spokesman added.
“In order to reduce the risk of listeriosis, susceptible populations such as pregnant women should consume freshly prepared hot food where possible, reheat chilled food until it is hot all the way through, and avoid high-risk foods, including ready-to-eat food such as cold cuts, cold smoked seafood, soft cheeses, salads, etc, or cook them thoroughly before consumption, even if they are presented as part of a dish.”
The spokesman advised members of the public to stop consuming the affected products and seek medical treatment if they feel unwell after consuming the products concerned.
The CFS will alert the trade to the incidents, and will continue to follow up and take appropriate actions. The investigations are ongoing.
Hong Kong Week opens in Chengdu

The opening ceremony of Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu was held today at the Sichuan Culture and Arts Center, with Chief Executive John Lee addressing the opening ceremony in a video message.
Kung Fu Artistry, presented by the Hong Kong Dance Company, was the opening performance. It retells the legendary story of superstar Bruce Lee through a blend of martial arts, dance, multimedia and jazz.
In his video message, the Chief Executive said long-standing exchanges between Sichuan and Hong Kong have laid a solid foundation for the staging of Hong Kong Week in Chengdu.
He stressed that Hong Kong will continue to play its roles of super connector and super value-adder to foster efficient connections between arts and cultural resources and markets in the Chinese Mainland and places overseas, thereby assisting in the wider and further promotion of Chinese culture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Rosanna Law remarked that since its inception in 2019 Hong Kong Week has grown into an important platform for deepening cultural exchanges and telling good stories about China and Hong Kong.
She added that Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu’s diverse programme showcases Hong Kong’s rich and multifaceted creativity, while also bearing witness to the great friendships forged between artists from Sichuan and Hong Kong through their collaborations.

Hospital project to be reviewed

The Development Bureau said today that it asked the Architectural Services Department (ASD) and the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) to submit reports on newly installed lifts not functioning effectively at the new Clinical Block of Queen Mary Hospital. It aims to complete its review and put forward follow-up arrangements next month.
The bureau said it is highly concerned about the lifts and is seeking to comprehensively review relevant acceptance and supervision work undertaken by the two departments.
It highlighted that the two departments were responsible for supervising the contractor’s work on the project.

Embryo specimen probe completed

The Department of Health today announced that it has completed its investigation into an untoward event that occurred at Heal Fertility, a day procedure centre in Central, in accordance with the Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance.
Under the department’s direction, the centre has implemented a series of measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents and ensure strict compliance in the future with the Code of Practice for Day Procedure Centres under the ordinance. This requires reporting of any “serious untoward event” to the DH within 24 hours of identification.
In early July, the department revealed that the centre had breached the code of practice by failing to report to it within the stipulated timeframe after identifying an error in embryo biopsy specimens sent for laboratory testing.
Upon learning of this, the department immediately deployed staff to the centre to investigate. It instructed the centre’s person-in-charge to submit an investigation report within four weeks.
The centre was also required to implement a series of improvement measures, including immediately suspending acceptance of new cases for reproductive technology procedures and making appropriate arrangements for individuals receiving relevant services at the centre.
On July 7, the Council on Human Reproductive Technology suspended 14 out of 17 licensed treatment services provided at the centre, allowing only three services relating to the storage of gametes or embryos to continue pending the investigation’s completion.
The department received the centre’s report, which covered immediate measures and long-term improvement plans, on July 29. The centre has also implemented several remedial measures relating to the handling and storage of embryos and embryo biopsy specimens.
The department has concluded that the centre was non-compliant with the code of practice, with regard to the timely reporting of serious untoward events.
Accordingly, the department has issued regulatory requirements and reminded the centre that it must report such events within 24 hours of identification.
The department highlighted that the centre has revised its procedures and reporting forms to ensure staff compliance with requirements under the code of practice going forward. The department will continue to monitor the effectiveness of these measures.
It also noted that the council convened a special meeting yesterday to review the report by its investigation committee and discuss matters related to the licence issued under the council.
The council has instructed the centre to implement further remedial measures as it considered that there is still room for further enhancements to the centre’s overall performance and operational arrangements.
The council will issue a letter to the centre today to notify them of the requirements. Its investigation committee will re-inspect the premises.
Until the council makes a decision on the licensing matter, the centre may only continue to provide the abovementioned three storage services for gametes or embryos.
Meanwhile, the council will commence its review of the Code of Practice on Reproductive Technology & Embryo Research. This will include reviewing the incident reporting mechanism and optimising the security and handling procedures for biological samples, with a target completion date of next year.
Given that the incident may involve intentional unlawful conduct by an individual, a Police investigation is ongoing.
The department has reminded the centre to strengthen security measures and will maintain close liaison with the Police Force.

Update on Hotspot and Haze Situation
- The surrounding region was mostly dry today. Smoke plumes from fires in the southern and central parts of Sumatra and various parts of Kalimantan were observed to drift towards Singapore.
- As dry conditions are forecast for the coming days, Singapore may continue to be affected by transboundary haze under the prevailing southeasterly or southerly winds if the fires persist. The 24-hr PSI for Singapore is forecast to be in the higher end of the Moderate to the middle of the Unhealthy range.

Hong Kong Customs combats illegal activities involving infringing karaoke songs

Hong Kong Customs mounted a territory-wide enforcement operation codenamed “Magpie” between July 28 and yesterday (September 3) to combat illegal activities by operators who provided infringing karaoke songs to customers in the course of business. During the operation, Customs seized a total of 21 sets of karaoke players containing suspected infringing songs, one game console set containing suspected pirated electronic games, and a batch of audio and video equipment. The total estimated market value of the seizures was around $600,000.
Through intelligence analysis and cyber patrols using a big-data system, and with the assistance of copyright owners, Customs earlier identified several party rooms suspected of possessing and providing infringing karaoke songs to customers in the course of business. Customs officers then took enforcement action by raiding 21 party rooms across various districts, including Central, Cheung Sha Wan, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, Tai Kok Tsui, To Kwa Wan, Fanling, Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Mun. The batch of suspected infringing items and relevant equipment was seized.
During the operation, three men and two women aged between 28 and 44 were arrested on suspicion of contravening the Copyright Ordinance. They comprised four persons-in-charge and one staff member. All arrestees were released on bail pending further investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and the likelihood of further arrests cannot be ruled out.
Customs reminds business operators to comply with the Ordinance and to make enquiries from copyright owners regarding matters relating to the use of musical visual recordings in the course of business.
Customs will continue to step up inspections and enforcement to resolutely combat various forms of infringement and safeguard the rights of copyright owners.
Under the Ordinance, any person who, without the licence of the copyright owner of a copyright work, possesses infringing copies of a copyright work for the purpose of, or in the course of, any trade or business with a view to it being used by any person, commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $50,000 per infringing copy and imprisonment for four years.

To effectively monitor NCDs in Hong Kong and support the formulation of public health policies, the DH commenced the fourth territory-wide Population Health Survey last September, collecting pertinent information on the health status and lifestyles of the local population to update and enrich the Government’s database on population health. The findings will facilitate the ongoing review of the various targets under the Strategy and Action Plan to Prevent and Control NCDs in Hong Kong.
