No.501
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) strongly condemns the Houthis in Yemen for launching missile and drone attacks since October 6 on such civilian facilities in other countries as King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. These attacks have injured numerous innocent victims, including one Taiwan national, and killed others. MOFA expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
Immediately after learning of the Taiwan national being injured, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia took action. TECRO personnel gained a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident and visited the hospital to express concern to the national involved on behalf of the Taiwan government and to provide assistance. MOFA and TECRO will continue to closely follow the status of Taiwan nationals in Saudi Arabia and monitor related security developments.
MOFA reiterates that it supports Saudi Arabia’s efforts to maintain national security and condemns all attacks against civilians and civilian facilities. As such actions not only endanger the lives of innocent people but also threaten civil aviation safety and regional peace and stability, MOFA calls on the Houthis to immediately cease their attacks.
Given the continued security risks in the region, MOFA advises Taiwan nationals to avoid nonessential travel to Saudi Arabia. Those flying to or transiting through the country should check their flight status in advance, pay attention to relevant security updates, and register their trips with the Bureau of Consular Affairs.
In the event of an emergency, MOFA advises Taiwan nationals in Saudi Arabia to seek assistance by calling the emergency hotline of TECRO in Saudi Arabia: 0505-223-725. If outside of Saudi Arabia, please use the number +966-505-223-725 or call the MOFA emergency hotline for overseas nationals: 0800-085-095. (E)
